With less than 3 years in service, Riders Club of Cedar Rapids has been opening many doors for seniors in the Cedar Rapids area. Car doors, that is. By the end of July, 2012, RCCR provided 20,033 rides since they started in December of 2009.
"It has been a wonderful ride," says Executive Director, Martin Wissenberg. Even with a volunteer core of over 50 drivers, there is a waiting list of 40 people needing rides. "Our riders expect us to be available when they need a ride, so we make sure we have the driver base to fulfill 100% of the requests," Wissenberg states. More drivers are needed.
The non-profit group provides low-cost rides to seniors and those who no longer drive in the Cedar Rapids metropolitan area 24/7. Volunteer drivers can set their own schedule and average 4 hours per week of driving. For more information call the office at 319-365-1511.
