Celebration of the
Oxford Sesquicentennial kicked off on Thursday, July 4, 2019, with a parade and steam engine rides. The town was founded in 1868 but delayed the 150th celebration by a year. Events continue through Saturday.

A steam engine begins its trip to Iowa City from Oxford during the Oxford Sesquicentennial on Thursday, July 4, 2019. Six rides of 350 passengers each sold out in the fundraiser for the Oxford Fire Department.The trips were a collaboration between Central States Steam Preservation Association and Iowa Interstate Railroad, and featured a 'QJ'-class steam locomotive.
