Apr. 12, 2017 3:33 pm
A new community center for Kalona received a financial boost Wednesday from the state.
The Iowa Economic Development Authority, through a tourism board, awarded the Kalona Community Center a $500,000 grant.
Overall, the project is expected to cost about $5.36 million.
The project includes the construction of a recreational complex with basketball courts, an elevated walking track, a dance room and new weight and exercise equipment.
In addition to the Kalona Community Center, the authority also awarded grants to projects in Earlham, Atlantic and Fort Dodge. The four grants totaled more than $1.26 million.
