IOWA CITY - Applications are now being accepted for the Iowa City Downtown District's 'A Day to Wed Downtown” event in the Black Hawk Mini Park in the Pedestrian Mall on July 29.
The event is designed for those seeking an informal wedding experience.
'We are looking for non-traditional, unique, eccentric wedding seekers, those that might be thinking about a more informal, small celebration or considering eloping,” said Betsy Potter, director of operations for the Iowa City Downtown District.
'Pop-up weddings are a growing trend in cities, and this is an opportunity for us to show off all of the amazing businesses that support weddings”.
The organization is taking care of everything to host three pop-up weddings and one larger group wedding for five couples. Applications are due June 1.
'The pop-up wedding option is really for those wishing to have their own simple ceremony with 30 guests,” Potter said. 'The group wedding is a concept used frequently in destination locations, and that will be five couples getting married at once. They will have seats reserved for guests but will be exchanging vows with other couples.”
Cost for the pop-up package is $1,400, and the cost for the group wedding is $700.
