On Saturday, Sept. 24, the Herbert Hoover Museum will participate in the seventh annual Museum Day. The museum will join participating museums and cultural institutions nationwide to open their doors free of charge to all visitors who download the Museum Day Ticket from Smithsonian.com.
Museum Day is a celebration of the dissemination of knowledge to anyone and everyone interested, without a price tag, emulating the free admission policy of the Smithsonian Institution's Washington, D.C.-based facilities.
The Hoover Museum is one of 12 presidential museums operated by the National Archives and Records Administration and sits on the grounds of the Herbert Hoover National Historic Site. The museum enables visitors to experience for themselves the many sides of Iowa's only president. In the large temporary galleries is the exhibit, School House to White House, which features artifacts, documents and photographs from the collections of all 12 presidential museums revealing fascinating details about children that would grow up to become president.
The Hoover Museum is located in West Branch, Iowa just off I-80 at Exit 254. Museum hours are from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. daily.
The Museum Day Ticket is available to download at http://www.smithsonian.com/museumday/ and you must have this ticket for free admission. A list of participating museums is available at http://www.smithsonianmag.com/museumday/venues/
Visitors who present the official pass will gain free admission for two people to participating museums and cultural venues. One ticket is permitted per household, per email address.
