Four Oaks received $25,000 from the Cedar Rapids Daybreak Rotary on Friday as the agency's portion of the proceeds from the Rotary's Great Eastern Iowa Duck Race, which was held on June 16 at Ellis Boat Harbor in Cedar Rapids.
Rotarian duck chairman Bill Courter made the presentation at the club's regular weekly meeting. In just its fourth year, the Daybreak Rotary's duck race is the fourth largest duck race in the country, selling more than 13,000 ducks this year. The event's presenter is Phelan's Interiors.
Other recipients were the Boys & Girls Club of Cedar Rapids and the Jon Cushing Memorial Sunshine Fund.
The Four Oaks funds will benefit the Achievement Academy, the agency's prevention program in the Cedar Rapids area. Four Oaks is one of the state's largest child welfare, juvenile justice and behavioral health agencies. Four Oaks and its affiliates serve more then 14,000 children and families in all 99 Iowa counties.
