CEDAR RAPIDS, IA – The daily duties of police officers includes making arrests and writing tickets, but many people do not realize that officers are also first responders who arrive on the scene to assist with medical emergencies. All officers are certified in Cardio Pulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) and carry an Automated External Defibrillator (AED).
The Cedar Rapids Police Department recognizes officers who perform acts demonstrating, “the use of any skill, which results in the saving of a life,” with a Lifesaving Award Class H honor. The officer is recognized at a yearly awards ceremony during Peace Officers Week in May.
