More and more people are familiar with and have even utilized community-supported agriculture. Consumers buy a share in a gardener/farmer's harvest; and throughout the growing season they can pick up fresh, usually organic, local produce each week. This concept has also recently been applied to visual art; and on sunday, December 18, the concept hit Iowa City during the Iowa City Community-Supported Art (ICCSA) kickoff event at Leaf Kitchen. Art enthusiasts and some of the selected artists mingled and enjoyed dinner as the first work of art (a print), a collaboration between Public Space One c0-director John Engelbrecht and artist Kamilia Strong, was presented to all attendees.
ICCSA was spearheaded by Engelbrecht as a way to build more local support for art and to raise funds for Public Space One. As already mentioned, every one who attended the kickoff dinner received the first work-of-art in the series. Subscribers will be able to pick up their other five works-of-art throughout the spring at various release events. A subscription costs $350.
Participating artists are Engelbrecht, Strong, Amber O'Harrow, Chris Reno, Molie Goldstrom, Andrew Ritchey, Richard Wriebe, Caleb Engstrom, and Christina McClelland.
Those interested in a subscription may contact Engelbrecht at issca@publicspaceone.com. Information and updates on this inaugural series are available at www.publicspaceone.com/projects/iccsa and www.facebook.com/iccsa.
