Closing Reception: Saturday, March 30 - 4pm-5pm
Each year the Ceramics Center hosts a number of Artists in Residence who are provided with studio space and use of equipment through a work-exchange program. These talented ceramists come from many backgrounds and bring diverse and unique perspectives to this community-based center. Expertise ranges from pottery making to figurative and sculptural works. From February 18th through the 30th of March, current residents have come together for an on-going, evolving, and collaborative installation, titled “Altered Egos”, located in the Ceramics Center's new Gallery.
Residents work together to create a larger artistic structure in the provided space while having the liberty to use personal insight and skills. In the beginning there was a catch: outside of the initial planning and set-up, the Resident Artists were not permitted to verbally discuss the evolution of the show. The only form of communication allowed between the artists was visual cues. In addition, once something was placed within the installation, it could not be erased or removed, but may be modified or repurposed. Then an evening of new thoughts and new directions allowed for a free flowing rebirth of ideas. This reawakening allowed an even more conceptual togetherness. As a continually evolving piece, the task is a test of cooperation, flexibility, and artistic expression.
Weekly updates of the gallery's production can be found on the Ceramic Center's Facebook page at http://tinyurl.com/tccfb.
