Pokemon and Yu-Gi-Oh Card Game Organizers WANTED!
School has been out for nearly a month now. I challenge you to ask your kids what they've been up to since slamming that locker door shut. Summer activities for most of our kids include lazy days at the pool, hanging out at the mall, summer camp, vacation bible school, sports lessons, etc. For others, summer is a prime opportunity to find new ways of causing trouble. At Central Corridor Gamers, we provide new opportunities for involvement so that the time spent finding trouble is eliminated. In fact, we go out of our way to identify kids that enjoy trouble and help them to find new outlets. Over the years, several individuals have come forward to reveal that our group inspired them to move down a more positive path in life. When other groups of “friends” were responsible for encouraging bad choices, members of CCG were there to inspire and encourage positive behavior.
As members of our group have grown and moved on to college or other endeavors, our numbers have fluctuated. So in recent months, our group has been brainstorming ways to get more of our community not only aware of us, but more importantly, involved and excited about our mission. It was recently been brought to my attention that the once-thriving Pokemon league that existed in Cedar Rapids hasn't met in quiet a long time. If you're a parent of a Pokemon player, you may find it a bit frustrating when your kids ask to play and you just don't know how. Have you thought about learning or even tried? No matter what your answer is, we would like to help you find a solution.
CCG has been active in the Magic: The Gathering community since our inception back in 1995. In the mid 90's, when the game first came along, members of our group were also very active Pokemon players. Before recent corporate changes affected tournament play for Yu-Gi-Oh, we had the only regularly scheduled sanctioned events in Iowa for several years. Board games have also been a very popular staple for many years. From Monopoly to more obscure titles like Hero Quest, board games have been a very popular choice since our very first days.
No matter which game we're talking about, all of these activities require someone to help introduce new players, manage/judge formal tournament events, and come up with ideas to keep things fresh and fun. Central Corridor Gamers is excited to announce that we are actively seeking candidates for Pokemon Gym Trainers, Yu-Gi-Oh tournament organizers, and board game event organizers. These are all volunteer positions. Your reward is knowing that you are providing clean, safe fun for players of all ages. At times you may even be given credit for helping to change a life now and then… for the better, of course! Along with that, you're fostering the games you love and creating great opportunities for trading and building collections. CCG will provide you and your players a safe, comfortable location to play. And due to the nature of our organization, we can help fulfill requirements that your game may have in regards to sanctioning your events.
Our regular meetings occur every Wednesday from 6-10 p.m. and every Sunday from 5:30-10 p.m.. We are located in a building called Groundswell located at 225 K Ave. NW in Cedar Rapids. People of all ages are invited to join us for open gaming or to participate in any of our formal tournament events. The mission of CCG is to instill within Cedar Rapids youth and adults concepts such as positive behavior, sportsmanship, and camaraderie by means of game-related events, outreach, fundraising, and volunteer opportunities.
To “apply” for any of these opportunities, please feel free to get in touch with us by e-mailing dan@ccgamers.org or calling 363-5799. To find out more about CCG, please visit our web site at
