Center Point teen crowned queen at Iowa State Fair

DES MOINES - A Center Point teen was crowned Junior Cowgirl Queen at this year's Iowa State Fair.

Callyn Fox, 16, a junior at Center Point-Urbana High School, competed Friday against more than 80 young women in front of thousands in Jacobsen Arena at the fairgrounds in Des Moines.

The daughter of Tim and Pattie Fox, Callyn represented the Iowa Quarter Horse District 1. Her horse is a 12-year-old quarter horse mare named Gem Studded Pistol.

The contest consisted of a pleasure class for the prelims and then 20 finalists were selected. For the finals, the girls did a pleasure class and then lined up in the center and answered a question from three judges then exhibited a salute at a gallop around the arena then stopped at a marker.

Contestants are judged on beauty and horsemanship.

This was the 55th year for the competition and Callyn has been a runner-up the last three years.

As queen, she was given $500 and a Silver and gold belt buckle.
