More than 18 local construction, carpentry, and electrical partners of The Building Pros of Eastern Iowa donated resources, volunteer hours and expertise to help construct a new pole barn at Tanager Place's Camp Tanager. The general contractor for the project was Weitz Industrial. Special thanks to R. A. Enterprises for donating all building material.
Partnering agencies donated material and/or volunteer hours for site grading, frame construction, concrete floor and approach slab, metal siding and overhead doors. The new 24x24 pole barn will be used as a storage supply shed during Camp Tanager's three summer camps.
Camp Tanager is Iowa's only facility to offer free summer camps to disadvantaged children who may not otherwise enjoy a summer camp experience. Camp Tanager also offers the only camp in Iowa for children with hemophilia, and is one of only two camps in Iowa for children with diabetes.
The camp is funded 100 percent through community support and local donations.
“We are very grateful for the support of these local businesses who generously donated time, expertise, and manpower on behalf of the children and programs of Camp Tanager,” says Tanager Place Director of Community Relations Joan Hackbarth.
