I am writing to encourage Iowans in House District 95 to support Louie Zumbach. I grew up in Cedar Falls, one generation off the family farm in rural Black Hawk County. One year ago, I met Louie on his farm in rural Linn County. On a dark, rainy night, we spent two hours talking about soil conservation, water quality and mental health. I quickly discovered how much Louie cares about those issues.
Years ago, I served as chief of staff for Govs. Robert Ray and Terry Branstad. Over decades, I have come to know, like and respect hundreds of legislators of both parties. This is the first time I've written this sort of letter.
Louie has a keen and open mind, a good heart, a solid work ethic and a balance of confidence with humility. He listens to his constituents, but understands he serves 3.1 million Iowans. Louie is not afraid to tackle tough issues or consider big ideas. Voters who want legislators to put the peoples' business first, work well between parties, and get things done should look at Louie as a good example of true public service.
Residents of District 95 are fortunate because Louie is looking out for you. I think highly of him and hope you keep him. The Iowa House will be a better place if he returns in 2019. I know he can make a difference advancing the right answers on mental health, conservation, and recreation.
