Youth volunteers make a difference
The Gazette Opinion Staff

If we all give a little of our time, together we can make a big difference. That's exactly what happened again with our latest Concert for A Cause, benefiting the YMCA Strong Kids Campaign. Many Cedar Rapids/Marion students, family, friends and student-athletes came out to hear talented high school and college performers who donated their time and talent Jan. 7 at
Gatherings in Cedar Rapids.
Thanks to Mark Geary, KCRG-TV9 reporter, and The Gazette for running the story and letting the public know again about the many high school and college students doing volunteer work to benefit the community.
Others such as Tom and Toni Hauer of Gatherings, Steve Barak (director of the Boyson Road Hy-Vee Drugstore), The “Y,” Groundswell, Dr. DeAnn Fitzgerald, Wava and JJ Meyers, and teachers, coaches and administrators from local schools understand the need to support and encourage students to volunteer their time and talent.
The best stories are the ones about the youths in our community who volunteer their time and energy to help others. Many youths in our community are making a big difference!
