Young leaders march to keep MLK’s dream alive

If you were not part of the recent student organized (mini) 'March on Washington” sponsored by the Boys & Girls Clubs of the Corridor, you missed an opportunity to support budding young leaders. Black and Latinx voices were strong and their message clear that they plan to stand, lead and speak out for racial justice.
As a white senior citizen in this community, I regret that my generation has failed to acknowledge the ugly truth of white racism and to aggressively right the wrongs and pain it has caused. Instead, we have been part of the problem rather than the solution. I am also the mother of a large, 'many flavored” family who has felt the sting of racism personally; we know all too well the harm it inflicts upon innocent people, especially children.
Thanks to these exceptional young leaders, MLK's dream still is alive. I also have a dream. In it, every voice counts, every color of life is equally valued, and no one has to fight for racial justice. These young people have renewed my hope that it's not an impossible dream. Please listen to and support them as they grow as role models and leaders.
