‘Yes’ vote shows you care for neighbors

As someone who lives on a hill near Mount Mercy University, I don't need to worry about my home flooding. It could be easy for my neighbors and me to vote “no” on the sales tax extension that is focused on protecting both the east and west sides of Cedar Rapids. What's in it for me, I could ask? Fortunately for all of us, there are higher motivations in life than simple self-interest.
I have worked to teach my two children about the simple principles of loving our neighbors, working to support the most vulnerable and the joy of giving.
On Tuesday, I will be voting “yes” because I believe we are all in this together and have a responsibility to protect one another. Let us work together to show others that Cedar Rapids is a generous community that cares for all our neighbors.
