Yearning for age of innocence
Aug. 16, 2009 8:54 am
The Aug. 10 letter by Tim Evans of Solon was extremely good timing, a letter we wished someone would submit to the reading public. It covered the vulgar decadence that prevails in the television shows, talk shows and television ads. It includes the vulgar swearing and crude details concerning the sex habits of others that should remain in private and not in a family newspaper.
As an old timer from the early 1920s and '30s, I recall a foundation called the Legion of Decency that governed the newspapers, magazines and movies. As a result, there were fewer sex crimes and crude language, resulting in a better way of life for years. Teenage pregnancy was a deep secret and rare in early years.
If we want good kids, we adults have to use common sense and set good examples in living decent lives. Our society needs to get serious and raise future generations now.
Parents, this is your responsibility. Don't fail our future society and your families.
