To the editor:
I grew up in Shanghai, China. Every day we consumed plenty of electricity and resources such as water and food without a further examination of the cost. People seemed to forget how much the earth could endure.
As I study biology at Grinnell College, climate change becomes a heated topic in almost every discipline, especially for ecology. I have done research on how fungi would potentially react to the climate change. I have also learned about the reduction in plant production because of the rising temperature. As I learn more about the science behind the climate change issues, I realized that the earth is getting worse in a warning speed.
I want to get involved with NextGen because I think people should take responsibility for what they have done to the environment. Denying climate change is absolutely intolerable in our own government since the scientists have provided strong evidence. The clock is ticking. We need to raise the awareness and start to ask candidates about their stands on climate change as the caucus approaches. Politics should have good influence on people and the planet. And everyone needs to stand side by side to recognize and slow down the climate change.
