Work to preserve historical landmarks

To the editor:
I always enjoy reading Diane Langton's Time Machine articles in the Sunday Gazette.
Her article on Nov. 23 about the Union Passenger Station was interesting and I learned that the railroad executives made the decision to tear down the station. I was fourteen in 1961 and I do remember this building which if it stood today would be a historical landmark.
When I see an article about the Cedar Rapids Union Station my thoughts turn to a song by Joni Mitchell titled 'Big Yellow Taxi.” Some of the lyrics are, 'They paved paradise and put up a parking lot” and 'That you don't know what you got ‘til it's gone.”
How true!
