With idols like Jackson, clearly we’re in decline

People spent a lot of their time and thousands of dollars in California on Michael Jackson's memorial service.
For a person who pumped himself full of drugs, cut his nose off, slept with children (not his own), so many people look up to him as some kind of mentor/idol.
Well, I just can't figure out why our society as a whole is declining rapidly. Those same people down the road will blame the bad economy or somebody else when they have no money for bills.
