Wisely allocate our dwindling resources

What a great idea! Let's spend a bunch of money (that the city, county, federal governments don't have) on projects that the vast majority of us don't use or need. Instead of delegating funds (we don't have) developing a “comprehensive trails master plan” (Dec. 8 story), how about doing the needed repairs and upgrades on the streets and sidewalks that we all use and need?
The city's and county's priorities seem to be a bit confused. The needs have never been greater, and the funds needed less available than they are today, so we need to allocate our dwindling resources much more wisely. If we think the situation is bad, just wait a year or two. The worst is yet in front of us all.
