Wind energy gives Iowa healthy future
The Gazette Opinion Staff

President Obama and Congress rang in the New Year with a promise for cleaner air and water. They renewed critical tax credits for the growth of wind energy in Iowa and across America as part of a package to avert the fiscal cliff.
And the renewal of the wind Production Tax Credit (PTC) wouldn't have been possible without the efforts of both Iowa senators, Tom Harkin and Chuck Grassley. Our senators advocated tirelessly throughout the year for wind energy and the jobs and healthier future it promises to create in Iowa.
In Iowa, wind power already prevents as much global warming pollution as taking 1,187,000 cars off the road per year, and could prevent as much as taking an additional 1,047,000 cars off the road in 2016 if wind growth continues at current rates.
