Wind energy benefits the economy in Iowa

As a supporter of wind energy in Iowa, I was disappointed to read a letter ('Vote against Rock Island Clean Line,” June 22 by Jim Doorley) that encouraged citizens to vote against politicians who support a new wind infrastructure project.
Wind energy production has been important for Iowans, and politicians across the aisles have recognized its potential to improve Iowa's economy and communities.
Wind production has been good for Iowa's economy, accounting for $9.8 billion in capital investments of wind farms and wind manufacturing.
Proposed projects have the potential to increase that investment to $8 billion to $10 billion in the next three to five years.
This level of investment has the potential to bolster Iowa's economy directly and indirectly.
The taxes paid by outside companies go directly to local and state governments, supporting statewide programs that benefit all Iowans in addition to local initiatives. Moreover, with increased investment comes increased supporting industries - local restaurants, hotels and shops will see increased traffic from industry workers.
Finally, jobs in the wind industry will expand, employing more Iowans in manufacturing, construction, and infrastructure maintenance.
When Iowans go to the polls in November, they will need to consider what is right for our communities and for the state.
Politicians who support wind energy and infrastructure projects, including the Rock Island Clean Line, represent the 85 percent of Iowans who support the wind industry.
I encourage all voters to consider both sides.
