Will our flag always stand for freedom?

I was excited watching the end of the fireworks show downtown on Independence Day when Lee Greenwood's song “Proud to be an American” came on. I always sing along and love the power and symbolism of the entire song, but most importantly when Greenwood says “where the flag still stands for freedom and they can't take that away.” To this day, that line gives me chills down my back.
Sadly, the flag used to stand for freedom not only in the United States, but around the world. But today, we are losing our freedoms at home and the respect of the world. The question going forward is will the flag still stand for freedom that can't be taken away, or will we say the flag used to stand for freedom but that's been taken away?
