Why aren’t we talking about light rail?

Recent front page Gazette stories focused on proposals for adding additional lanes on I-380 and development along Forevergreen Road. Nowhere in these stories did the city administrators of Coralville, North Liberty, and Tiffin talk about the impacts this additional traffic will have, or even mention providing mass transit to serve their woefully neglected communities.
Given the impacts of climate change that we're now seeing everywhere, it seems strange to see us pouring tens of millions of dollars into new roads and development, instead of the light rail and mass transit that could reduce traffic and pollution.
