Whoever controls more money wins elections
Jan. 24, 2010 11:50 pm
The U.S. Supreme Court just overturned a 20-year-old rule that prohibited corporations from using money from their treasuries for their own campaign ads. It's now official. We have the best politicians money can buy.
The ruling came, as usual, in a 5-4 vote. The legacy of George W. Bush will be with us for a very long time.
The argument that this ruling supports free speech is a false one. The only voices that will be heard are the ones with the most money. It is democracy to the highest bidder, which isn't democracy at all.
Whoever controls the most money can buy the election. Corporate America can pretty much pick who they want. Why bother even having elections? Let's just say the one with the most money wins.
This country is no longer a democracy (if it ever really was), it is a corporatocracy.
