While still stressful, parenting has changed

Thank you, John Johnson (“I-380 speeding tickets hurting C.R. merchants,” Jan. 5). You reminded me why I am glad I am not parenting today.
I remember parenting being very stressful because I feared my children would end up hating me. Of course, the morals of the day were different then. We felt compelled to lecture our kids about vehicle safety for their sake and for the sake of others.
I would have grounded the “kid,” taken the car keys away, and demanded they take responsibility for their own actions by paying their own fine.
Indeed, parenting is still so stressful. I certainly would not have found the courage you have to write publicly of righteous indignation that a city ordinance should apply to your children.
But really, I thank you for making the streets of Cedar Rapids a little bit safer and to suggest you buy your daughter a new dress to make her feel better.
