What ‘Reach Higher’ means in Marion

Our little town of Marion has a double meaning motto, 'Reach Higher.” Currently, Marion residents pay the highest fees and taxes in Linn County, per the Auditor's Office. We pay for water runoff, a city tree fee, and we rent our sewer line. And let's not forget the cable TV franchise fee. This equals almost $350 extra to the city from taxpayers.
And now the city wants us to pay a franchise fee for electricity on top of an electrical service increase? Plus we just got notified of a $3,000 to $15,000 hike from Linn County on property valuation?
In short, if you are planning a move to Marion, do your research. Or become a Marion citizen who's 'reaching higher” just to live here.
