What DEI is and isn’t
Gerald Ott

Diversity, equity, and inclusion isn’t a list of dos and don’ts. It’s not being “politically correct.” Nor being colorblind. Nor segregation or cliques. Not rules. Not shunning. Not a religion. Not indoctrination.
DEI‘s content is learned behavior. DEI is attitude. It is respect. It’s walking the talk. It’s character. DEI is friendship and the Golden Rule. DEI is practicing good citizenship. DEI is patience and understanding. DEI is who we are. It’s our culture.
DEI starts at home. It can be learned. It’s the whole village. It’s a community. It’s tolerance for difference. It’s neighbors being neighborly. It’s teachers modeling respect and demanding it of others.
