West Cedar Rapids streets plan should be changed

In the next two years, Cedar Rapids’ west side will undergo a major change. The Sixth Street NW Extension Project will connect Ellis Boulevard to Sixth Street NW, which will take traffic to the First Avenue and Sixth Street West intersection. This will move traffic from the north side quicker and, hopefully, bring business and investment to the Ellis Boulevard/Time Check area.
The only negative to this project is the plan calls for removing the traffic signal at Fifth Street NW and putting in a median from First Street to Sixth Street West. The city would put a stop sign at Fifth Street NW and traffic could only turn right/west. Please leave the traffic light as is and cut a full section in the median at Fifth Street West so traffic can move in all directions. There are several businesses affected in this area, as well as St. Patrick's Church.
