To the editor:
I'm writing in support of Susie Weinacht for Cedar Rapids City Council. Since becoming a member of city council in 2013, she has remained active, engaged and visible in our community. She knows about the concerns and challenges of everyday Cedar Rapidians, because she is an active member of our community.
She has been supportive of crime victims and a city representative, speaking words of encouragement to victims and providing a proclamation in observance of Crime Victims Week - a collaboration between victim service providers, criminal justice agencies and citizens to raise awareness of victims rights these past two years. On any given day you can find her at community events, talking with community members and participating in the activities that make Cedar Rapids great. She makes herself accessible so that people can share their thoughts and ideas with her. Because of her willingness to listen, she has been successful building coalitions and bringing people together by uniting individuals around common goals.
When I think of the type of leadership I want in City Council, I think of the kind Weinacht exemplifies.
