To the editor:
As chair of the Cedar Rapids Civil Rights Commission, I have seen firsthand Susie Weinacht's work ethic and commitment to civil rights and community betterment issues, and believe that it is imperative that she continue to serve our community as a council member.
As the city council liaison to the Civil Rights Commission, Weinacht and I have worked together on a number of occasions. She is an authentic and collaborative voice at the table and does not hesitate to take action on an issue. Her commitment to all citizens of Cedar Rapids can be seen in her willingness to do the hard work of bringing diverse groups of people together for a common goal. We have all benefited from her leadership.
As we look to the future, we know that Cedar Rapids will continue to have both exciting opportunities and new and difficult challenges. I believe that we will better capitalize on those opportunities and better address those challenges with Weinacht as a city council member. She has proved herself to be an important voice for unity and solution driven results. I am confident that she will serve us well in a second term.
