We the people deserve clear, concise legislation

The American people can agree on only a few things these days, and from the polls, one is that Congress sucks.
I think I can offer the reason.
When the founders wrote the Constitution, they came up with a document that controls everything that happens in this nation between government and the private citizen, and it was 40 pages long. The current Congress writes a health care bill that controls one-sixth of our economy and it is 2,000 pages long.
Why wouldn't it be seven pages long? Because the current batch of representatives is unable to differentiate between a law that imposes restrictions on how we the people conduct our lives and an omnibus spending bill to which they attach their pet project.
In the old days, when congressmen and senators were afforded some respect, they tried to write laws that could be read, digested and understood by the citizens of this nation. Isn't that what we, the people, deserve? I contend that we deserve no less than clear, concise and understandable legislation that every citizen has the time and responsibility to read and form an opinion on.
