We should mine our own uranium
The Gazette Opinion Staff
Apr. 24, 2013 12:50 pm
America is presently more than 90 percent dependent on foreign sources of uranium, with half of that from unreliable Russia. It fuels 104 nuclear power plants that provide power for more than one in five U.S. homes and businesses. We are in this position because President Obama had Interior Secretary Salazar issue an order last year to “lock up” 1 million acres of federal land in northwestern Arizona that holds the nation's highest grade uranium ore.
We must supply our own uranium for our economy, energy future and national security. ...
President Obama claims to want to reduce unemployment in America. If so, we should mine our own uranium, build the Keystone pipeline and allow oil drilling on federal coastal areas.
