We should be charitable in our evaluations of others

Government should not interfere with a woman's choice regarding abortion. Yes, we all weigh in on one side or the other, but the matter should lie between that individual and God, not an invasive government.

The Iowa Supreme Court unanimously ruled in Varnum vs. Brien to legalize same-sex marriage in Iowa. Plus, recently, our nine-member Supreme Court ruled five in favor of ObamaCare with Chief Justice John Roberts tilting the scale. We may not see decisions made by these bodies to our liking, but judges are there to interpret the laws as they see them, rightly or wrongly. If the majority disagrees, they don't fire the interpreters, they change laws to reflect their views.

Returning to Iowa's decision to allow civil unions, this is in tune with “all men are created equal.” We need to look beyond outward appearances and see what that person offers from within. If they adhere to the laws of the land, perhaps they can bring something new to the table. We must learn to be charitable in our evaluations of others; first impressions are never accurate.
