We need to be part of the solution

Social Security is talked about by congressmen as something that needs to be “fixed.” We have paid into Social Security and when more money is taken in than needed for funding, the government has “borrowed” this overrun for other projects. Shouldn't the government be required to pay back these funds? We hear “consumer confidence is low.” Wouldn't it make sense to say, the consumer's funds are low?
The middle class is so diminished that many large companies are reluctant to create more goods and services than can be expected to be purchased. Should they hire more workers in the present situation? The United States has complicated problems, not as easily fixed as some of the president's opposition tells us. We need to be part of the solution.
History tells us that following someone making outrageous “patriotic” statements is a dangerous path to follow. In our anger, we need to know what makes sense for our great country. Some of our biggest public projects were created by Republican administrations. Abraham Lincoln, the transcontinental railroad and land grants. Dwight Eisenhower, the interstate highway project. Both necessary for our growth.
It's easy to tell us that “government is the problem.” There are government-run plans that benefit the citizens that the opposition opposes at their peril for re-election. Knowing what works for us is important!
