We need more jobs for a balanced budget
The Gazette Opinion Staff
Sep. 4, 2011 12:56 am
When people have jobs, most of them pay taxes and the government gets money to spend no matter what the tax rate is. The more people that work, the more revenue the government gets.
Our only hope to improve the economy is to make it possible for people to get jobs, especially in the private sector where real products are made. People can then buy the products, which stimulates the economy. Many people advocate raising taxes to fix our economic problems because it will increase the revenue to the government, but no one is able to show that increased taxes creates more jobs.
Our government has not developed a responsible plan that will use any increased revenue to reduce the debt and/or the deficit. Unless government spending can be significantly reduced and more people get back to work, I do not believe our economic problems will be resolved, rather they will get worse. If we ever needed a balanced government budget, it is now!
