We must support, protect the RFS

Kudos to U.S. Senate candidate Mark Jacobs for supporting the Renewable Fuel Standard. By advocating to protect Iowa's agricultural and renewable-fuel jobs, Jacobs is trying to make Iowa stronger. He recently explained that RFS is not a 10 percent ethanol mandate, but a 90 percent oil mandate.
That is an interesting thought. But he has a point. If the RFS goes away - as Big Oil and some leaders in Washington would like - Iowa and our country will be left with a fuel monopoly. And we all know monopolies are harmful to consumers.
The bottom line is that we must protect the RFS. Send people to Washington, D.C. who are willing to do the same.
Protecting the RFS is about jobs. It is about consumer choice and national security. Our elected officials need look at the overall picture, and act in the ways for Iowa and the nation. Support the RFS.
