We have a need for a community conversation

There was discussion at a recent Cedar Rapids City Council meeting regarding the Time Check Recreation Center being moved to or near Ellis Parkand about how this institution serves the northwest side.
Consider a partnership between the Time Check Recreation Center and the Boys and Girls Club. Both are venerable institutions that provided activities, mentorship and support to the Time Check/Northwest neighborhood pre-flood. Unfortunately, they also operated within a few blocks of one another.
In these lean economic times, both the city and the Boys and Girls Club could benefit economically and organizationally from a partnership. The city could provide the facilities and the Boys and Girls Club the programming and activities.
These partnerships could be a way for local governments to economically provide services and programming. We need to have community conversations regarding the future of our city facilities and services.
