Waste to spend millions to save smokestack

I can hardly wait until the next time I take out-of-town visitors on a tour of the city. First, I will show them the homes in flooded areas that haven't been repaired for lack of funds. Next we will stop at the metal tree, which is to be renovated at a cost of $350,000, albeit with private funds.
I'll save the best for the last - our memorial smokestack that will cost about $1.2 million to stabilize and restore. The latter should put us in competition with the Washington Monument and the St. Louis arch. May I humbly suggest a $100 plaque on a pile of old bricks as a memorial to the Sinclair plant.
