Was debt crisis just a political ploy?
The Gazette Opinion Staff

Just a few years back, the banking system was on the verge of collapse and was described as too big to fail. President Bush addressed the nation on the need for a bank bailout, warning us of the dire consequences of a banking collapse. A tearful John Boehner pleaded with the House to pass a bailout for the banks.
Fast forward to today. Isn't America too big to fail? Where were the tearful pleas on the floor of Congress to get everyone onboard to save America from defaulting? Could it be because the entire crisis has been manufactured by a political party?
The debt ceiling has been raised 78 times since 1960, 49 times under Republican presidents and 29 times under Democratic presidents, and this was the first time there has been legislation attached to the raising of the debt ceiling. Does the future of our country mean less to the Republicans than their political agenda?
