Wanting a water park isn’t selfish

To the editor:
I have to agree with Patricia Kinch's letter on April 11 'Our ‘neighbors' are being selfish” about our neighbors being selfish when Cedar Rapids wanted a casino and now a water park. Eric Bertch, general manager of Lost Island in Waterloo, said, 'It's very concerning to me to hear that another develop so close to us is wanting to jump into the pool with us.” Well, I'll be, if he is so upset about it, why didn't he say that when Dan Kehl from Riverside offered to build a water park here if we turned down the casino referendum?
I also have to agree with Gene Kopecky's article 'Gaming panel failed its duty,” printed April 26, 2014, when he said the city should sell the land saved for the casino on First Street SW to the Meskwaki Indian Tribe because they would know what to do with it. I realize Mayor Ron Corbett had worked hard trying to get a casino here and I commend him for it.
I'm also surprised there haven't been any complaints about the baseball/softball complex being built north of Marion or maybe there have been and I just missed it. Oh, well.
