Want to raise chickens? Then live on a farm

In regard to the Sept. 2 letter about raising chickens in town, I have to disagree. The letter writer said it herself: “Having just recently moved into town from an acreage,” she thinks raising chickens is a fun thing to do. That may be true, but it should be done on a farm or acreage.
We city dwellers live in town for a reason, so we don't have to put up with the noise and smell of farm animals.
City leaders are considering a change in policy to let people in town raise chickens for eggs. I feel the majority of us do not want this policy changed. If it is, what will be next? Cows or sheep for milk, pigs for pork? That, folks, is a farm. There are plenty of farmers out there to purchase eggs from along with farmers markets.
So leave the farm animals where they belong, out on the farm or on an acreage. We already have to put up with barking dogs early in the morning and during the day. I don't want to smell or hear chickens, too.
