Voting should not take place in a church

Our polling place was moved from a school to a church. I feel holding an election in a church is a violation of the separation of church and state.
I asked a few questions in the voter registration office. When I asked if we taxpayers had to pay rent to the church, I did not get a clear answer - just a “they don't usually charge.”
I asked about using fire stations as some small towns do since they are publicly owned property. I was told, “They don't want us there.” I asked about holding the elections on a Saturday when there would be no students in the schools. I was told, “That would require changing a law.”
It would be my hope that more suitable sites can be found for voting that will not include churches.
Some people already question how wisely current flood recovery funds are being spent. It seems to me having voting places in churches is another example of poor choices.
