Voter registration system needs fixing
The Gazette Opinion Staff

For more than 25 years, I have been a registered Independent. I changed my party affiliation to Republican according to law at the Republican primary election polling station. I signed for the same and witnessed thereof.
Last week, I received a new voter registration card. I'm now listed as a Democrat! Two of my retired neighbors are lifelong registered Republicans. To their surprise they are now registered Democrats.
The system for recording party affiliation needs to be fixed. I don't know if this is an isolated incident between polling stations or if it's statewide. Allegedly, this has no effect when voters choose to vote in November. I disagree.
This can potentially have a huge effect when voters are programmed into computers influencing the vote. I do not want the Democrats' propaganda garbage coming to my mailbox. I do not want the Democrats' automated phone calls blasting my answering machine before November.
When the Democrats stop the biggest spending spree and “out of state” welfare system in Iowa's history, give me a call. Until then, the Linn County auditor needs to fully investigate the recording keeping to fix the system.
Also, if voters receive their registration cards with the wrong party affiliation, they need to make a call as soon as possible.
