To the editor:
The new changes in the traffic flow downtown and the downtown parking spaces being taken up by the construction are driving me crazy! But I can't agree with the remarks about the library in the Sept. 8 letter 'Reader criticizes downtown changes.” There are plenty of things for seniors at the library. Check the library website for lots of fun things for all ages.
Getting a card, your passport to the world, gives you free parking around the library, including the parkade, computer use and room rental. You can research information on microfilm of the Cedar Rapids Gazette and past street directories. You can relax with a cup of coffee, in front of a fireplace in The Den, and read the current Wall Street Journal or one of many current magazines. You can exercise while you enjoy free computer use or start a guided tour of downtown, led by The History Center, via the Skywalk. You can check out large print books, books that are read to you or even music or a movie. If you can't find something to do, you're not looking hard enough.
After building a new home, you still have to pay for the upkeep and utilities. Replacing books and providing programs, for all, costs money. Please vote yes for the library levy so that these multigenerational programs can continue.
And it also will support the Ladd library if you still don't want to come downtown.
