To the editor:
I support the Cedar Rapids Public Library tax levy. This facility is a central hub of our community. Activities abound for young and old, parents and kids and involved community members. Those with many resources and those with next to none can use the books, computers, CDs and even the warmth on a cold day.
Taxes are about priorities: for what purpose, to whom and is it worth it in one's own value system. It would cost my wife and me $15-20 a year. The advantages far outweigh the negatives for a community to grow, connect and provide opportunities for low income youth and adults alike.
We may not be rich, but supporting this endeavor makes us richer in a different sense. Holding the library accountable for money spent and services rendered is also important for all involved, including community members, library employees and city government.
We can have it both ways: literacy, community and transparency.
