Vote yes for new justice center
The Gazette Opinion Staff

Johnson County has outgrown its current courthouse, jail and sheriff's office.
On Nov. 6, I'll vote yes for the proposed justice center because our current facilities create an unsafe environment for jurors, employees, and anyone who has reason to conduct business or just visit there.
The historic Johnson County Courthouse is 111 years old and has outgrown its capacity to serve our current population. It's lacking in safety and security, space, storage and accessibility to case files, and it hampers access to improved technology.
The county jail was built in 1981 and is so short on space that our county taxpayers are spending $1.3 million each year to house inmates elsewhere.
It's time to invest in a facility that meets the needs of our growing population and keeps our tax dollars in Johnson County.
