To the editor:
The flood of 2008 destroyed the Cedar Rapids library. This gave the library board the opportunity to design and build a new library with the latest technology to meet the needs of today and long into the future for the entire community. Don't believe it, take a tour. It is impressive!
The library has:
A living roof adorned with live plants and benches that is environmentally friendly and will last longer than a normal roof.
Sunlight floods the library, minimizing energy usage and enhancing interior experience.
Library is in sections to offer something for everyone. Children's section for reading, playing or interactive activities that capture their imagination. Meeting rooms. Computers. Treadmills. Audio books, movies and free Internet.
Did I mention coffee is available?
The library with its technological advancements is meeting the needs of the consumer and community with its futuristic design. It is a treasure for the community to celebrate and embrace.
Today, libraries share resources with other libraries from around the world through the digitalization of the books through the Internet. The library offers access to the past and present through the resources they have to offer. It is more critical than ever to keep the funding of our libraries. To shutter or close a library is to close access to the knowledge of the past. The future can be brighter for all of us by voting yes for the library levy on Tuesday.
