To the editor:
Rep. Rod Blum's voting record:
June 7: Voted against amending HR1335 to require pipeline companies responsible for an oil spill to compensate fishing interests and others suffering economic losses as a result of the discharge.
June 14: Voted for HR2289 to reauthorize the Commodity Futures Trading Commission through fiscal 2019, yet scaled back its power to regulate the derivatives market under the 2010 Dodd-Frank financial-regulation law. Remember, it was the derivative market whose collapse in 2008 helped crash the U.S. and global economies.
June 28: Voted for HR2042 that would kill a proposed Environmental Protection Agency rule to limit carbon emissions by natural gas and coal-fired power plants. These emissions make up about one-third of greenhouse gas discharges in the U.S. and are the nation's largest source of carbon pollution.
July 12: Voted against a proposal by Democrats to guarantee adequate funding of the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act in HR5, designed to provide disabled students with mainstream public education.
July 19: Voted against the five-month extension of the Highway Trust Fund HR3038 and the Democrats bid to establish a six-year highway and mass transit construction program.
July 26: Voted against Democratic sponsored amendment to HR1734 to require operators of coal-ash impoundment sites to provide notification and alternative sources of safe drinking water to properties within one-half mile whose wells show sign of coal-ash contamination.
Blum is helping only the wealthy. Let's vote him out in 2016.
